Understand the Climate Crisis, Delivered by Experts in the Comfort of Your Home
Guardian Masterclasses bring the expertise to you. Still time to sign-up!
Dear Human of Planet Earth,
Just as I said I would, I’ve worked out how much of my 5-T carbon budget I’ve used so far this year. And the news isn’t good. I’ve started to write to you about it, but that letter is still in draft form - because I want it to read smoothly, and it doesn’t yet - and this weekend is wicked busy.
But there’s an event I don’t want you to miss if you can attend.
I only saw the details a few days ago, and I’ve already got commitments on the 21st and 28th of June myself. *insert sad face*
But it’s online and might just hit your day at a time when you can fit it in:
The ‘course’ as they call it, is six hours online, two hours a week and there are only two weeks left, and you can sign-up for both or either.
This is what the next session focuses on:
What does the latest scientific research tell us? Mark begins by digging into reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and will discuss the pertinence of tipping points. Then, the Guardian’s environment correspondent Fiona Harvey will talk about the big issues and what must change – from deeply-rooted issues within our society, to how our economy needs to evolve to become more sustainable.
And the last one next week:
The practical actions you can take now in order to reduce your negative impact on our planet, with Mark. After, Sacha Wright, the research and curriculum coordinator for Force of Nature, will share data-led insights into how young people are responding to the climate crisis. Lastly, the Guardian’s writer Damien Gayle, who has reported on the ground with Extinction Rebellion, will discuss the rise of collective movements and the power of protest.
Also, if you can’t make it, there’s a link in there where you can sign-up to be in the loop next time they have an event like this.
I’m going to try to find out whether the sessions are recorded and the link sent to you if you registered but can’t attend. If I get an answer to that, I’ll let you know.
Edited 23:05pm, 19/06/2022 to include from Guardian Masterclasses’ response to my email query:
Thank you for contacting The Guardian in regard to our climate Masterclasses and if they are recorded.
We appreciate you getting in touch. Please be advised that our Masterclasses aren't recorded due to their interactive nature, so you would not be able to access the course after it has been presented.
Oh well, that’s a pity!
But if you can make it, do check it out!
With Love,
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Radical
PS that’s my abbreviated sign-off. Busy weekend, remember? But sign up if you can, wherever in the world you are -f or the Guardian Masterclass I mean. But hey, sign up for my newsletter too!
