This was a lovely piece. I must visit Chaldon Church sometime. I’ve often reflected that terms such as “woke” or “politically correct” are just used as catch alls to disenfranchise anyone who dares to show a bit of care and empathy in this world. Maybe using those words helps to cancel out feelings of guilt on the part of the user.
Do visit Chaldon Church when you can. Oddly enough, the rain threatened just as we were leaving and our first thought was to return to the Church - a place of refuge from the rain.
I think it's useful when we encounter these emotive accusations of wokery etc that we step back from the intended insult and intimidation and interrogate the specific issue. I see them as distractions from the specifics.
